Shahana is an interdisciplinary social scientist, researcher, policy expert and development practitioner who works towards sustainable and equitable development; inclusive cities; fair work and just climate transitions.  She is Director, Research Data and Innovation at the World Resources Institute, India and a Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Policy Research, New Delhi.

Current research projects look at how cities can work better for migrant workers in India; women's economic opportunities in the platform economy, and refugee outcomes in cities across Europe. Shahana has held fellowships and taught in policy and planning programs at Oxford University, the University of Pennsylvania and Princeton.  She holds a PhD from Princeton University, a Master’s degree from MIT, and an undergraduate degree from SPA, New Delhi. She has previously worked at the United Nations, and World Bank.

Shahana is interested in strengthening links between research, scholarship and practice; in learning from experience on the ground, and in developing and testing new ideas and applications.  She believes the critical challenges facing the world today call for thinking and working across disciplines, fields and geographies.
